Indian state
has largely failed to perform its vital functions. This is primarily
due to state's involvement in unnecessary activities. As a result,
governance suffered, and citizen's initiative is stifled. Conditions
for wealth creation and public good are not promoted.
Lok Satta believes
that role of the state must be refocused to fulfil its primary purpose:
- Public order
- Justice
- Rule of
law
- School education
- Primary
healthcare
- Basic infrastructure
- Natural
resources development
- Security
net for the very poor and helpless.
These are the
preconditions for a civilized society, citizen 's liberty and a
modern economy. After fulfilling these vital roles, the government
can attempt more if citizens approve and if resources permit. But
nothing can be done at the cost of these vital functions.
