Verification of polling - Survey results ......

Lok Satta's door to door surveys in Hyderabad city showed that nearly 22% of votes polled may have been 'bogus'- either voters did not live in the city/country, or the names are fictitious, or they have not actually voted. This shows massive electoral fraud which can be curbed merely by improving voter registration and introducing effective voter identity card and other measures.

VERIFICATION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS

Lok Satta's door to door survey of electoral rolls in Hyderabad showed that the voters lists are far from accurate. The mistakes could be as high as 40%. That means two out of five in urban areas are not registered, or the names ought to be deleted. In rural areas the problem is less acute, but it is still significant -about 10%. This can be dramatically improved by better voter registration procedures. For instance, post office, a user-friendly organization, can be made the nodal agency for providing access to voter's lists and electoral registration. This can be done within the existing law.
