Central Excise in Hyderabad (2001)

In 2001, the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Small Industries Associations (FAPSIA) sought the support of LOK SATTA in their fight against corruption. LOK SATTA vigorously supported their fight and because of its support FAPSIA could achieve the following:

The Chief Commissioner of Central Excise was compelled to negotiate with FAPSIA and an agreement was signed consenting to jointly evolving procedures for simplification with four objectives:

  • Government revenue should be protected.
  • Extortion, harassment and corruption to come to an end.
  • Transparency to prevail in revenue collections.
  • All interactions with Central Excise Department and the entrepreneurs to be based on trust and self assessment and not on mistrust and harassment.

LOK SATTA has been in the forefront of this movement of FAPSIA for fairness and transparency in revenue collections. This is the first movement of its kind by entrepreneurs across a major State after independence. Follow-up efforts to precisely identify the procedural improvement are now underway.

Fighting corruption of this kind is not merely a matter of morality and good governance but it is an economic necessity for survival of enterprises.
